The Tara Whitney Experience
Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 09:19AM I have been following Tara Whitney's blog for years and I LOVE her! I love her work... so fresh and fun and unlike anything I've been trained to do in my own photography. I love her words and wisdom and honesty... I don't know how she learned so much from life so fast... I think she's only about 32! I'm amazed by her in every way and I always wished I could have her photograph my family. As we were planing our summer vacation to southern California it occurred to me that my wish could become reality if she were available! and guess what? She WAS! So, we met in the parking lot at Huntington Beach and she took us for a walk stopping here and there for pictures against walls, in alleys, on bike racks, in doorways. We bought ice cream cones for the kids and she snapped away at all the melty fun! It was a very relaxed and happy experience. I just sat back and watched her chat with and giggle with my family all while snapping the shutter. I started to SEE my precious little family from the outside for just a little while and I really got it; you have to have someone else take YOUR pictures sometimes - it helps YOU to see how amazing your life is and how precious your people are when someone from outside takes time to capture your beauty! After the walk through town, we went down to the beach. My hair was a mess (I forgot a brush), my makeup was gone (I forgot to bring it for touch ups), AND I forgot my change of clothes... so everyone changed excpet me! HA! All I could do was laugh at myself - I'm just like any mom preparing for a family portrait session - scattered and insane :) Here is Tara with us on the beach. I didn't realize my lens was all coated with salty air... but I love this shot anyway!

My kids LOVED Tara. Steven is playing 'Words With Friends' with her on his iPhone. We wanna be her next door neighbors.

Her shots...

After our shoot Alex said, "That was SO much fun! It was like an old friend was taking our pictures." Tara spent a lot of time with us. I usually start to get nervous when my shoots are running long. The dads always get antsy first. But we were all prepared for spending our evening doing just this... and it was awesome! I LOVE the Mardi Gras colors behind us here...

This was our only celebrity sighting in SoCal. The famous Tara Whitney. She may only be famous in MY world... but I can't think of anyone else I'd have been more excited to meet. OK, Oprah, maybe.

Heaven... I'm in Heaven ;) (Even though I'm FREEZING!!! Who knew California beaches in July would be so chilly??)

Tara is very tall... very.

Framin' it!!!
